The Women’s Democracy Network Cameroon (WDN-C) was founded by Anne Stella Fomumbod, following her research studies in Washington DC, USA, in 2011. While on the Reagan Fascell Fellowhip program on the National Endowment for Democracy, NED), Stella Fomumbod was priviledged to laise with the Women’s Democracy Network (WDN), USA, for findings on issues related Women’s political participation. At the end of her studies, Ma Stella Fomumbod made a public presentation, which was coordinated by the then Director of WDN-USA, Michelle Beckery. The presentation by Stella, exposed the reasons for the visible low participation of women in the political life of Cameroon, mainly as a result of Women’s acute lack of capacity. This challenge faced by women in Cameroon, particularly moved Michelle Beckery, and in reaction, she, being the Coordinator of the presentation & WDN-USA Director, instantly pledged her support to Stella for the improvement of the situation of women in Cameroon.

Immediately after this public event, WDN-USA invited Stella to participate in the development of a project proposal to be submitted to the United Nations Democracy Fund. Anne Stella did so on behalf of her organization, InterFaith Vision Foundation Cameroon-IVFCam, and her country Cameroon. Eventually, the project was funded and Cameroon happens to have been the only African country, that benefitted from the said funding/project on, WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP SCHOOLS.

Through this project implementation in Cameroon, by InterFaith Vision Foundation-Cameroon, more than 150 women leaders vying for the 2013 Municipal & Parliamentary elections were trained and prepared for election campaigns. After the elections, the more than 25 of the trained women, who won the elections, were again trained on, “Governance & Accountability,” preparing them to effectively take over and manage their new offices. The results and impact of this project in Cameroon, 2013-2015 was evaluated as tremendously evident & very impacting on the lives of women politicians, by the WDN-USA team that paid a working visit to Cameroon. In order to sustain this incredible work, WDN-USA, with Erika Veberyte as Director, awarded Stella Fomumbod/IVFCam, the priviledge to found and register the Women’s Democracy Network in Cameroon.
